Cedrick Boyd, Creative Studies, M.S.
I know that I am qualified to represent my fellow graduate students as a GSA Senator. I have served my community and country in a couple of different capacities. I’m a 17-year U.S. Army veteran I have led people during peaceful and hostile situations, so I know how to lead, remain calm and advocate under pressure. I have served as the Chief Administrator of my local church where I have led the non-profit organization in community events to raise awareness of community issues and resolutions. During that time, I have organized community functions, galas and networking events to secure jobs and careers for individual in the community. I’m definitely an advocate for the people. I’m here to support and express the interest of the current and future graduate students. Integrity is one of the values that I live by, doing what is write at all times is a must. My support and allegiance for the GSA and Buffalo State will never fade. I want to give students the support that was given to me which allowed me excel in my education and life. If elected I will give the graduate body my very best at all times. Thank you for your support and the opportunity to be your next GSA Senator.
Ronald Dupree, Higher Education & Student Affairs Administration, M.S.
It is with great enthusiasm that I apply for the College Senate and GSA Senator positions at Buffalo State. It has been a long-term professional goal of mine to develop and gain new experiences through representing the student population. This initial interest developed into a serious commitment when I joined the Residence Hall Judicial Board in May 2013. The Judicial Board heightened my interest in learning about Student Success. In August 2013 while being a member of the Buffalo State football team I was hired as a Resident Assistant, and two years later promoted to Senior Resident Assistant. These opportunities allowed me to develop skills that are crucial to building positive relationships with the community, such as leadership skills, character skills, and cohesiveness. My commitment to student success as a Senior Resident Assistant led to me being hired as a Conduct Manager for Janelle Brooks in the SUNY Buffalo State Residence Life Office. Along with the Conduct Manager position came the opportunity to be a Resident Director at the Buffalo State Off-Site location in the fall semester of 2016, intern in the Housing and Residence Life department at the University of Miami, and becoming a Hall Director at Damen College in fall 2017. The Resident Director position has taught me the following on the job experiences. I learned how to create a positive living environment, facilitate the development of students, provide leadership during crises in the residence hall and in the greater campus community, participate in a rotating weekly on-call system providing emergency assistance to staff and residents, assist agencies such as University Police, Fire Department, Health Center, etc. in the case of an emergency, and most importantly act as a positive role model at all times. Most important these positions have taught me how to be an effect leader and decision maker. I am truly excited about the possibility of the College Senate and GSA Senator for the 2017-2018 academic year. Resume
David Georgeson, Applied Economics, M.A.
Thank you for the opportunity to represent my fellow graduate students as a GSA Senator and/or College Senator! I’ve heard somewhere that brevity is the soul of wit… So here are a few words to describe myself: I’m a graduate student pursuing a degree in Applied Economics that grew up in and cherishes Buffalo, New York. I’m a co-founder of the Global Environmental Movement where I use my passion for economics in analyzing environmental issues. I love playing guitar, reading and walking my newly rescued golden doodle named Willow.
I’m very involved in the Economics department and would love to take initiative in representing the needs of the graduate students at Buffalo State. I’m very social, productive, practical and understanding which will allow me to facilitate the proper level of communication required to listen to the desires of my peers. It would be an honor to advocate for the rights and interests of the graduate students and, if chosen, I will be committed to doing so in a cooperative and attentive manner.
Like many of us, who grew up in Buffalo, I was drawn into completing a graduate degree with Buffalo State because of its affordability and great opportunity. Our community of staff, faculty and students are unparalleled in offering strong connections and a commitment to effective learning opportunities. From our vibrant group of students, clubs and diverse programs, it is clear that Buffalo State offers a challenging and supportive environment in which students can develop their potential. Buffalo State has in some ways already succeeded in fostering a resourceful and creative playing field for the visions of its community. However, it is imperative that we highlight these strengths and ensure its continued fervor.
As Senator, I pledge to actively represent the student body enthusiastically in order to appropriately develop and sustain the vitality of the academic, occupational and social endeavors related to the institutions and community. I know that to fulfill my duties as Senator I must engage with my community in order to understand the individual concerns and priorities. I encourage you all to talk with me, but I will be ambitious in reaching out to you, and strong while protecting and serving your interests.
